About 41 - Maa Jwala Devi Jwalamukhi Shakti Peeth
The Jwala Ji Temple, located in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, is one of the most revered temples in India and a prominent Shakti Peeth. It is believed that the tongue of Goddess Sati fell at this site, making it a sacred place for devotees. The temple is dedicated to Jwala Devi, who is depicted in the form of eternal flames, symbolizing her fiery and powerful nature. The name "Jwala" means flame in Sanskrit, and the goddess is often referred to as the "Flaming Goddess."
According to legend, Jwala Devi's temple was the first ever built by the Pandavas. The story traces back to when Goddess Sati, daughter of King Prajapati Daksha, married Lord Shiva. After her father insulted Lord Shiva, Sati immolated herself in grief. Lord Shiva, in his rage, performed the destructive Tandava dance and wandered through the worlds with her lifeless body. To calm Shiva, Lord Vishnu used his Sudarshana Chakra to cut Sati’s body into 51 parts, which fell at different locations, becoming the 51 Shakti Peethas. The tongue of Goddess Sati is said to have fallen here at Jwala Ji.
ज्वाला जी मंदिर, हिमाचल प्रदेश के कांगड़ा जिले में स्थित है, जो भारत के सबसे प्रतिष्ठित मंदिरों में से एक है और एक प्रमुख शक्ति पीठ भी है। कहा जाता है कि यहां पर देवी सती की जीभ गिरी थी, जिससे यह स्थान भक्तों के लिए पवित्र बन गया। यह मंदिर ज्वाला देवी को समर्पित है, जो हमेशा जलती हुई ज्वालाओं के रूप में प्रतिष्ठित हैं, जो उनकी प्रचंड और शक्तिशाली प्रकृति को दर्शाता है। "ज्वाला" संस्कृत शब्द है, जिसका अर्थ है "आग", और देवी को "ज्वाला देवी" के रूप में जाना जाता है।
किंवदंती के अनुसार, ज्वाला देवी का मंदिर सबसे पहले पांडवों द्वारा बनवाया गया था। यह कथा इस प्रकार है कि देवी सती, जो राजा प्रजापति दक्ष की बेटी थीं, ने भगवान शिव से विवाह किया। एक बार उनके पिता ने भगवान शिव का अपमान किया, जिससे सती ने दुखी होकर आत्मदाह कर लिया। भगवान शिव ने सती की मृत्यु के बाद अत्यंत क्रोधित होकर तांडव नृत्य किया और उनके मृत शरीर के साथ तीनों लोकों में घूमने लगे। भगवान विष्णु ने शिव को शांत करने के लिए अपने सुदर्शन चक्र से सती के शरीर को 51 टुकड़ों में काट दिया, जो विभिन्न स्थानों पर गिर गए और वे 51 शक्ति पीठ बन गए। देवी सती की जीभ यहां ज्वाला जी में गिरी थी।
